Why do you want to be a teacher?

Published by juliebmack at 10:00 pm under Teaching Edit This

People have different reasons they go into the teaching career.  I am often curious about the reasons.  For one, I am going to be a teacher and I like to learn about my fellow teachers.  Secondly, I really just want to know why people chose certain careers, what drives them.  Teaching is not an easy job and requires a lot of patience, devotion, and time.  There can be frustrations with administration, parents, the bureaucracy, and student’s behavior.

It is well-known that teachers do not get paid a lot of money, yet there are still plenty of people who are going to college to get a degree in education.  There are still teachers that have been in the classroom for 20 years or longer.  I know the salary has nothing to do why I chose to get into this field.

So,what drives people if not money?  Don’t get me wrong, I understand that people are motivated for different reasons besides a high income.  I am just curious if anyone cares to speculate.
